Make Winter Beautiful

Winter, a time for snowflakes, sweaters, and skin care. With all of these cold months coming our way, we have to be sure to keep up on our skin care routines. If you do not have one right now, this can be a time for you to start. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you embrace a simple plan to work into your day.

1. Moisturize

It is the easiest thing that a person can do. Go to the store and pick up a moisturizer because beauty starts with your skin and then only becomes more beautiful with the clothes you wear! Also by using moisturizer, you are able to make you skin feel softer and not so dry.

2. Save Your Face

Staying with the idea of moisturizing, we cannot forget out faces. Origins is a great company at creating product lines that help target certain problems, and it works with most skin types. By using a good moisturizer on your face, it will prevent that tight feeling that comes from dry air.

3. Lock in Moisture in Lips

Let’s not forget the lips. Make sure to pick up something that will help keep them from going dry and cracking on you. There are so many good products out there that can help prevent that problem. One little trick is to drink out of straws; this will help with preventing dry lips.

4. Help Your Hair

One other area to remember is your hair. Find a good conditioner that will treat it right. Your scalp is going to feel the change in season the same way your body will. That is why it is important to find hair care products that will keep your locks strong and shinny!

5. Sunscreen to the Rescue

Even though it is winter, the sun is still out and just as strong. Make sure to have some sort of SPF 30 in a moisturizer that you may buy, or even apply sunscreen separately. Always remember that when dealing with the sun, one can never be too careful.

6. Humidify the Air

Humidifiers are an easy item to add to a space to throw some extra moister in the air. Beat the dry air by having one of these in the room with you while you sleep. By having extra moister in the air, it will help keep skin from drying out and feeling rough.

7. Terrific Self-Tanners

If you are sad to see that tan you worked so hard over the summer time to get leave. Buy a self-tanner that you can just rub into your skin, this way you do not have to go into a tanning bed. Some companies even sell gloves with their products, this way it does not have the chance to stain your hands.

8. Wool and Synthetic vs. Cotton

If you want to avoid irritating your skin, stick with more cotton and cashmere sweater fabrics. If you are more inclined to buy wool, stick with merino wools, it is softer on the skin. However, if you do wear mostly wool or synthetic blends, have a cotton undershirt on to protect your skin.

9. Keep Moving

It will be cold out, but that is where jackets come in. Make sure to go outside and go running or walking, it is not only good for your health, but also good for your skin. Find a friend who can keep you motivated and push you to keep up the good work.

10. Treat Yourself

Even though you may not be able to exercise as much as you want, give yourself a treat from time to time. Make yourself a nice cup of hot chocolate, sit by the fire, grab a good book, and get lost in it. Give yourself some time to relax seeing as there might not be much in terms of activities that you can do outside. If you need some ideas on how to change up your hot chocolate, click on the hot cocoa above.

Thrifting the Right Way

Thrifting the Right Way

Newport is filled with little boutiques and chain stores. However, hidden behind the scenes are the true gems in the fashion scene. Thrift and vintage shops tucked on Spring Street and Broadway will truly get the tags popping. Maison DNA, St Paul’s Thrift Shop and the Salvation Army are three of the top places to explore this fall. Here are a few thrifting tips that will make the hunt a true success.

1. Be Patient

Entering a thrift or vintage shop can be overwhelming, and sometimes intimidating. The number one tip to begin a thrift shopping adventure is having patients. The true miracle finds take a passionate mindset and dedication. If you do not have a lot of time, bring a friend to make for a quicker trip. Remember, the more eyes the better the prize.

2. Stray from your gender

Unlike a normal retail store, shopping in a thrift store allows you to break gender barriers more comfortably. Some of the best finds, will be tucked in a different size and location that you would never expect. Be adventurous and venture outside your normal comfort zones.

3. Be a frequent customer

Thrift shops and vintage places are constantly getting donations and new materials. Great merchandise moves fast in thrift stores. Popping in for five minutes once a week may find you the perfect fall sweater or winter cardigan. An added bonus is becoming familiar with the working staff, to find the best finds possible.

BONUS Tip! Halloween is right around the corner! If you haven’t found a costume yet and are on a tight budget you should check out a thrift shop. They may even have costumes ready to go or you might want to get creative and put different things together. 10.30.13_costume_mike.ruiz2_

The best thing about thrift shopping is not just saving money it is also fun! Thrift shopping and peeking through vintage shops makes for great ‘selfie’ opportunities and a few laughs with friends. The true perk about shopping in these types of shops is also letting your own fashion sense shine. Finding a cute sweater for only $4 gives you all of the opportunity to make it your own. Try things on, have fun, and overcome the idea of buyer’s remorse.

Hello, October

October is finally here. Yes, I know what you were thinking: sweater weather!

When the weather gets crisp in the fall, it is that time of the year to pack up your beloved sun dresses & bathing suits because you need that extra room for your favorite cozy fall trends.

Lauren Conrad, an iconic fashionista in today’s fashion industry, and if you don’t know who she is by now, you should probably find out. Her latest post, October Style Tips, provides us with the ten essential items we NEED this fall. I know this seems pretty unrealistic to run out & spend your next pay check on all ten items, so here are a few that are absolutely positively essential for your fall style:

1. Fall for soft neutrals

Soft neutral tones like blush, grey, and tan are a must have for any fall wardrobe and are trending this season.  Match neutral sweaters and scarves with bold sunglasses or white pants to transition into the fall season easily!

2. Super- size it

Oversized sweaters are the coziest and best parts about fall and is a necessity for the brisk weather.  Styling an oversized sweater with distressed denim or shorts can add an edgier view to a cozy style.  Layering over a summer dress cause incorporate many textures and give the piece a softer and sweeter style.

 3. Get thigh high

Thigh-high boots are a rising trend this fall and will keep your legs warm too!  Adding major edge to any outfit don’t be afraid to strut your stuff in thigh-high style.  Pair the boots with a slouchy sweater to balance the look with a softer piece!

4. Call it a hat trick

Dark, wide brimmed hats are a modern look that many people have been tentative to add to their wardrobe.  Hats are a major trend of Fall 2015 and a great way to add detail to simple outfits to create a chic look.

5. Break out your burgundy

Burgundy is the “in” color for Fall 2015.  Incorporate it in any outfit easily through sweaters, booties, denim, and even lipstick.
